Making Choices from the Highest Perspective

There is a lot of focus on the mind dictating reality. But here the mind has gotten top billing and a bit more importance than is actually warranted.
Let’s face it, as personalities, we see ourselves as what we know. Sure, feelings come into play, and often it’s what we know about our feelings that we hear first when we go inside; what our minds interpret about our feelings.
In its purest form, the mind is a filter. Its true purpose is to allow in and out the units of data that are relevant. A mind in overdrive will let in everything, just ask yourself this the next time you are trying to fall asleep and you notice your mind running through the very relevant details of the day. Trust me, not everything the mind focuses on is important.
Any student of meditation will recall learning how to quiet the mind, and the ongoing challenge of learning this at deeper and deeper levels as the mind resurfaces with the presence of larger and larger moments of emptiness. Some meditation traditions achieve this through focusing on a single point of reference, others encourage the use of breath to go within and quiet the mind. The Vanati process involves a large transmission of energy that encourages the mind to open beyond its limitations and find the expansion that awaits.
When the mind begins to slow its rate of generating thoughts, the mind itself finds an edge of discomfort. If the mind is no longer doing what it perceives it should be doing, then what exactly should it be doing now? In stillness comes the moment of awareness of just how engrained the mind is in being in charge. And why not? The mind has been judged in its various degrees of success throughout its existence. Test scores, how fluent you are on a topic at work, where you put the keys, all relevant indicators to the mind that it is still functioning at peak performance.
If you, the human being, a beautiful blend of consciousness and light tempered with matter and history, were in charge of the overall health of your system, which of these random thoughts would you allow in, if you were the filter? Which expressions of the mind would really seem important? Or more importantly, which thoughts enhance your ability to be in expansion, to truly step forward in your unlimited potential?
It’s an interesting series of questions. One of the exercises I have mentioned in the past is one we focus on often in the advanced consciousness classes of Cellular Expansion and Healing. As the student moves through the layers of releasing the past and opening to what is truly the presence of the Soul and Spirit, layers of thought arise mostly related to why the mind should stay as the primary operating system. The mind has invested a fair amount of energy in the public relations system of the mind to keep the mind in charge. Coming to grips with the notion that this was a poorly designed system, that the mind itself could never fully be in charge, often wreaks a moment or two of discomfort. The exercise, “What do I know to be true right now?,” can be used over and over again to help lubricate a system that is otherwise engaged in stuck or repetitive behavior that does not yield the highest results.
As a refresher, this exercise is intended to help you discover what is at the root cause of any situation. Simply begin with a blank piece of paper and start answering the question; What do I know to be true right now? Resist the temptation to write a story or qualify your answers, but instead write down the simple statements, such as I am confused. I do not know what to do next, I am anxious that I do not know what to do. I don’t like the feeling of not knowing. I am scared if I do not know what is next then I will not be able to make things better. The list continues until you find the very bottom. The moments of pause, where you feel as if you don’t have anything else to say, are best supported by waiting in the silence and asking the question again.
Paying attention to the amount of data, the statements that are expressed, is a great consciousness raising exercise. It’s a clue about how much stuff is in your mind, much like seeing all the recycling piled up at the end of the week raises awareness of how much paper, plastic, etc. you consume.
As minds, we are consumers of data when we are not functioning as we were intended, as filters. We consume what we are taught, and we take it in as real. We consume what we perceive are the expectations of others and we shape our own expectations from there. And we even unwittingly consume the thoughts of others as we resonate with fear and anger about circumstances that may not even be affecting us.
The trick in any consciousness raising exercise is to not judge what is discovered, to not fall back into one of the aspects of the mind (categorizing and judging) but rather to simply notice from a place of neutral observation. As the mind begins to notice the degree of stuff it is holding, it will also develop greater ease in moving through the layers of the mind more efficiently. You might notice for instance arriving at the bottom of your discovery of “What do I know to be true?” in a given situation with greater ease and comfort. At some point you may even notice it in the moment, having bypassed the stuff and filtered into the consciousness of what is real.
